Signal Processing

My Research Activity

My research interests are currently focused on an emerging research field at the intersection of Numerical Linear Algebra and Signal Processing. In particular, in collaboration with many colleagues from Italian and international Universities, I work on the development, mathematical analysis, and possible acceleration of new algorithms for the decomposition and time-frequency analysis of signals, which are made freely available online at Software, and their applications to applied research fields.
Among the most recent applications, we can mention:
- Medicine - analysis of biomedical signals (University of L'Aquila, and Physiolab s.r.l.)
- Optics - low-contrast optical fringe pattern analysis
- Mechanical Engineering - detection of thermal defects in infrared thermographic images (University of L'Aquila), and the improvement of the turbo jet performances via acoustic analysis (University of Bristol and Safran Landing Systems company)
- Geophysics - study of Earth's ionosphere and magnetosphere, and GNSS signals (Institute of Space Astrophysics and Planetology of the National Institute for Astrophysics in Rome, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Rome, and University of Trento)
- Astrophysics - solar physics and plasma dynamics (National Institute for Astrophysics in Rome, and Imperial College London), Gravitational waves (European Gravitational Observatory VIRGO in Pisa)
- Economy - analysis of economic time series including crude oil price and gross domestic product of a country (University of Teramo), statistical analysis of recycling data for the optimal transition to a green economy (University of Chieti-Pescara)
